Conventional digitizers have a certain amount of built-in acquisition memory that allows the user to capture real-world signals for a certain, limited amount of time. Once the data has been captured, there is a dead-time during which the data is processed. But no matter how large the acquisition memory of a digitizer is, it is a finite resource and eventually data acquisition stops. The M8131A offers – in addition to its internal acquisition memory – the optical streaming interface (ODI), that allows gapless capture for a seemingly unlimited amount of time. Depending on the configuration, the M8131A can either stream the “raw” digitized samples or down-converted I/Q samples (VITA 49) over the optical data interface.
The Keysight M8131A delivers unmatched digitizing performance for 4 channels at 16 GS/s or 2 channels at 32 GS/s with 10 bit sampling...but without an ultra-high-speed, sustained storage solution, you can’t capture its full potential. That’s where the Conduant StreamStor® recording system comes in, providing a tested, reliable solution to capture these high speed data streams over long duration test cycles.
ODI: Breaking Speed and Distance barriers
ODI (Optical Data Interface) is a high-speed interface standard designed for advanced instrumentation and embedded systems, facilitating optical communication between devices over pluggable optical cables. With speeds up to 160 Gbps on each fiber cable, ODI addresses challenging applications in 5G communications, aerospace, and high-speed data acquisition. It works seamlessly across various product formats, including AXIe, PXI, LXI, VPX, and traditional bench instruments, enabling efficient communication between instruments, processors, and storage devices.

The StreamStor® Cobra recording system is available in standard and customized configurations to support M8131A applications requiring capture durations from seconds to hours of duration. Conduant developed an ODI specific implementation that combines the capability of multiple Cobra recording elements to aggregate their performance and support the 320 Gbps (20 GB/s) output rate from an M8131A channel. Our recorders are optimized to receive and store 10-bit data streams at up to 40 GB/s per channel—continuously and without loss. Whether you're capturing a 50-minute burst or a 10-hour test, the system ensures every bit is recorded and ready for detailed analysis.
